Taking a holiday near marina |

As many holiday resorts, both at home and abroad, have undergone considerable face lifts in the past decade, there has been an emergence of the marina in many popular holiday destinations. There has always been a need by those lucky enough to own a yacht, for somewhere to moor up for the night. However, nowadays it is not just the wealthy few who choose to cruise around the coast or island hop in comfort. There are numerous opportunities for holiday makers to hire a live aboard boat for a few days or even the entire summer season, and the demand for better facilities such as energy power points and excellent bars and restaurants when mooring has grown.
Marinas attract tourists, and not just those with yachts. The presence of a marina means that there will be private boats as well as cruise boats present, and the cruise operators will compete with each other to offer the visitor an excellent price for a day`s cruise around the coast, often with barbecue on the beach, or an evening boat trip with on board meal. The varieties of boat trip on offer are endless. Visitors can often hire a speed boat for the day for a spot of independent beach hopping, or even negotiate a great deal for a cruise experience of a few days.
Where there is a marina, you are almost guaranteed to find a scuba diving centre with its own boats. Here you will be able to book an individual dive or a whole day`s dives with meals, and be taken out to sea to the popular local dive sites. Many diving centres have live aboards, which are boats with cabins, where divers live for a few days or weeks on board, being taken around an extensive area of ocean, with several dives per day. A variety of other water sports are usually available from a marina, such as water skiing, paragliding and bouncing bananas. For those who fancy trying their hand at a spot of deep sea fishing there is always a trip available, often with an experienced local fisherman to head out towards the horizon for the day. The sea holds a great fascination for visitors, and so there are often opportunities to go dolphin, turtle or whale spotting, depending on what the location has to offer.
Resorts with marinas are always well established, and hence there is plenty of choice when it comes to accommodation. Whether it is an inexpensive self catering studio apartment or a luxury villa for 10 with private pool, overlooking the bay, there will be something to suit all tastes and pockets. The choice of hotels in the area will vary from bed and breakfast to luxury 5 star hotels and all inclusives. Alternatively, you may wish to stay on a yacht that is permanently moored at the marina or choose one that is cruising around the area. One thing is certain; when a resort has a marina, there is always plenty of activity, particularly in the evening when all the boats have moored, along the marina front where the bars and restaurants can be found. Yacht owners are eager to head for dry land and tell their wonderful tales of where they have been and what they have seen, to anyone prepared to listen. In addition, it is great fun to promenade along the marina, just admiring the amazing luxury yachts and cruisers in the evening. It is well worth searching for travel deals that include a marina on your next holiday |
